Happy birthday Singapore (:
So NDP yesterday was awesome. The parade wasn't as tiring as I expected, and I loved the part when we were singing the National anthem and the school song, me thinking
i must not start singing no matter how instinctive it is and it was a beautiful thing when the school song played and the voices of the crowd behind us singing drifted to our contingent and you could feel the
unity in all of us, knowing that we really belong to this school. I think the parade for me was less of a celebration of the national day spirit and more of a celebration of the school spirit, and the guiding spirit (: it was an amazing feeling, watching the national flag go up (the really big one, not the usual one) and i'm not sure the school recognizes the effort we've put into this parade (i know there were many people laughing, fidgeting, whatever) but it doesn't matter because we believe in what we're doing, we've done our best and that's enough for us.
And then the concert was wonderful (: i don't know how to describe it, the school spirit that all of us felt when everyone just stood up and started swaying and singing to the songs, and watching b11atch there dancing, singing- not perfectly, but incredibly sincerely, and i think what really hit me was the smiles on their faces throughout all the songs (yes, all 22 of them), how they're so incredibly close and bonded and their performance was so heartfelt. also looking down at the amphi and up above us and watching the whole school swaying to the music and singing together, clapping together, looking towards the guides table and seeing part of 13atch and gst singing together and thinking
the flame is alive and it was so wonderful. i think the thing i love so much about school events is the unity i feel- maybe not so much the event itself, but the unity we invariable have when cheering together, or singing together, as a whole school. and how the love and happiness and sincerity just spreads, even the least enthusiastic people start singing along (despite us knowing only half the lyrics) and it was amazing. fashion parade was quite fun (406 was awesome. "is that amirah? waaaait is that caitlan i see? OMG nicolette! XINHUI THIS IS LIKE A P5D3 PERFORMANCE" and realising later that what caitlan was wearing looked suspiciously like her OM costume) although we kind of got bored at the end, commenting on the bimbo-ness or coolness of the models and thinking wow the effort they must've put into that (: and the OM-ish of it all and the number of OMers i counted (was it 9?)
i really don't know how to feel about national day except that it was completely inspiring and amazing, and i don't think it was that much about singapore as about rgs. the rgs spirit is really very strong, but sometimes i think it's so strong that it overwhelms everything else. not complaining though, i love rgs, i love guides.
