in a very disillusioned mood today- during cle the raffles diploma booklet was given out, and many many people started talking about what competitions they're going to join just to get a rd merit/distinction and it's very very frustrating to see it- i don't understand why and how people can do things purely for merit, how they can turn rd into something that is superficial and purely achievement based. rd was started off as a recognition for your passion and aptitude for a certain domain, not purely aptitude and i cannot understand how it has become something that looks good on your portfolio, thus you want to go for it. call me idealistic, but i still firmly believe that we should be doing things for the sake of interest and not achievement for the sake of achieving. and yes, i know, this is raffles, this is the highly competitive singapore, but times like this i still do get very annoyed and frustrated- where did all the sincerity and passion go to?
